Alaka Ravi is a self taught artist whose practice began early during her school years and took deeper root through her active involvement with the Fine Arts and Photography Society at Kirori Mal College, University of Delhi (2010-2013). As a dedicated member, she maintained a rigorous daily practice, culminating in several exhibitions that spanned diverse media including charcoal, acrylic, oil, ink, mud and white cement. A few of her works were exhibited for group shows at Red House (2023) and The Stainless Gallery (2024) in Delhi.

 

She revived her studio practice in 2025 and is currently engaged in the Drawing Intensive Programme at the Royal Drawing School, London.

Alaka studied English Literature for her undergraduate degree from Kirori Mal College, University of Delhi (2013) and has a Master’s in English Studies from Jawaharlal Nehru University (2015). Her MPhil dissertation titled Sketching Dissent into Democracy offers a study of political cartoons from the emergency era in India (2017). She has also worked as an Assistant Professor at University of Delhi (2017-2019) teaching courses on World Literatures, Popular Literature, Indian Classical Literature and Literature of the Indian Diaspora among others.

She co-founded Alphabets in 2010 for the uplift of underprivileged sections of society.​
